It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the first quarter of the 2013- 2014 school year. The students are finding the balance between 6th grade responsibilities, school work, friendships, & extra-curricular activities. We are learning one another's personalities, both the charms and the not-so-pleasant qualities we all possess...... I think I love those little monkeys more each day.
Mr. Lew has taken over my English classroom completely, and we are in the midst of my favorite novel, Peter Pan. I've been teaching with this novel for years. When it became a Common Core unit novel, I made some adjustments, implemented interactive notebooks and shared with the district. This unit is my "baby", and believe me, this has been a hard one to let go of and hand over to Mr. Lew. But, as expected, Mr. Lew is doing a great job making it his own, while still entertaining my desire to be involved with the "performance" reading. I hope that the kids love the book and the whimsical writing of J.M. Barrie as much as I do!
